Question Bad idle

Hi peeps,

I have had a couple of stalls yesterday for no apparent reason, just slowing down at traffic lights and it stalled, it then did it another three times yesterday. I had just filled the car with a tank of shell optimax and it happened about 5 minutes after that. I have added a can of millers to see if it helps, it has'nt stalled since but have not run it much.

My car does not idle that well, if the electric fans cut in the car idles all over the place, I am wondering if the idle speed control valve may need cleaning ??? Can anyone help me out ?

The car is a 2001 STi 7 JDM

Sounds like MAF sesnor.. needs sorted ASAP as it could well be running lean and will cause engine damage.

If the dealers had a good mechanic they might be able to check it on the select monitor.. but best bet would be to try a new MAF sensor and see if the stalling goes away. Don't pay for the whole thing with the moduling too though just the sensor.

Specialists.. errrmm off the top of my head www.scoobyclinic.com located near Notts / Derby, Rally Colin in Reading could sort it.. or just get a dealer to replace the MAF if it is a UK?
Otherwise I think GGR see MAF mail order.. but not sure.. guessing www.graham-goodle.com??

Just drive it off boost if you have to drive it.

Unplug it at idle and see if it steadies out.... MAF's on the STi7 seem better, so also suspect the o2 sensor. Has your MPG gone down at all?

Red face

I am going to take it into the Soob dealer this week coming. It has happened another couple of times since. I notice it wants to stall on me when it is running hot, ie town driving, dont know if that offers any more clues.

The car is a jap import and done 30K miles.

I will try and keep it off boost until it has been seen to
