Default Do I want a Six Speeder???

Not that serious, just wondering what the benefit would be really, probably a uk box, my car is UK my00 with about 260ish bhp thanks to decat!
Would the rear diff need doing aswell??

All been done before, just can't find it at the moment!

Don't bother. Considerable cost and very little to gain in your position.

Like said above, wouldnt bother.

If you do want to change your gearbox, look out for a 5 or 6 type r gearbox as they cope better than your UK one

agree with greasemonkey and money,

JDM 6speed box gives nicer spacing IMO , UK gives better cruise but jump from short 4th to tall 5th.

Are you all sure?
If your engine is delivering 300+ bhp/torque then the 6 speeder is a viable alternative to the Jap 5 speed/dog box for reliability and cost?

A 5 speed rebuild is about £1000, a 6 speed + rear diff about £1800, and a semi helical Lateral rebuild about £4000.
The 6 speeder is a good bet for a reliable trans if you mistreat your car as I do.

If it is a UK daily driver, I do agree with you all. 911

The Type R gearbox is good for 350 torque? Many guys here such as AlanG running around this power broke Uk gearboxes, but is fine on the Type R gearbox

There are plenty of wrxs running around 320bhp and 280 torque and using the wrx gearbox (very hard to) and have no probs.

Just think it gets dangerous around 350 torque. But then if you are near there, you have got loads of mods and probably looking for more mods! Lol

You can't really say that these gearboxes get suspect at a specific torque level. The way they're driven is a major contributory factor. Avoid full-bore standing starts, unsympathetic gearchanges and rough roads and you'll be lessening the chance of problems, no matter how much torque you're putting through it.

You can get some idea though

Like i said, so many people round here have wrx gearboxes, around 320bhp and 280 torque and they have done loads of launches. No whining, nothing

With mine, i had over 350bhp and bit oevr 300 torque and i was doing launches using motec all day long and gearbox was still fine

It appears that people have gearbox troubles when hitting 350 torque

Tweenierob had wrx gearbox in his - 430bhp and 330 torque and if you saw how he drove, you will be surprised gearbox lasted
