Wastegate Actuator question
Hello all,
Still have an ongoing problem with boosting/fuel cut and have narrowed it down to the wastegate actuator (can actually suck and blow through it!!). Can anyone tell me if they are available individually or whether I would need to get hold of a complete turbo unit? Also, if a new turbo is required, would there be any problems running a TD05 on a 95 WRX wagon?
Who actually makes the TD series turbo's, is it Garretts??
Sorry about all the questions, but need advice quite urgently!!
Thanks all
Roly

The TD turbos are made by Mitsubishi!
You shouldn't have any problems getting hold of a spare TD04 actuator, try any of the common Subaru breakers (Grade A, Central etc.).
I presume the '95 WRX wagon has a right-angle entry turbo? If so, dropping a right angled TD05 shouldn't be a problem. Only issue then would be how you'd control the boost/match the fuelling.

Thanks greasemonkey,
Someone was trying to convince me they were made by Garretts, but I was pretty unsure that was the case!! If I fitted a TD05, I guess i would have to stick a new chip in the car to handle the boosting and fueling issues, guess that is the only way??

If you have a scoobyecu fitted (or buy a scoobyecu) you could have it mapped to suit the TD05 which will have fuel/ignition/boost/solenoid duty maps to complement the additional air flow and turbo characteristics

Not necessarily the only way. Might be able to get it running right with a Dawes or similar manual boost controller, but to get the most out of it, yes, you'd be looking at a remap.
Might be worth having a word with Pavlo or David Wallis to see if they can do a ScoobyECU with some sort of "off the shelf" TD05 friendly map. You'd probably find that the map for a '95 WRX sedan would do the job just fine, as the sedans of that period have the '05 as standard.
