Lightbulb 2.5 N/A A/T legacy - manual and 220bhp needed

Hi,
I am thinking of a legacy project - the car currently has a 2.5 N/A engine and automatic transmission and the owner wants to have manual and 220-240bhp.
Basically we are thinking of two options - a swap for a standard 2.0 turbo engine or adding a turbo with manifolds etc + piggyback to the current engine.
Which way would you recommend?
As for the transmission - will impreza turbo transmission fit legacy - what will we need except for transmission, rear diff, clutch with line and pedal?
Thanks for advice
Marcin

What is the point.. ??

Sell it and buy a Legacy Turbo.. the car will be worth very little once converted..

It's not mine. LHD legacy turbos are rare (well, at least they are here in Poland). He does not want to sell it - he likes the car and wants to use the car for several more years.

Fair enough then..

The 2.5n/a blocks have been used in Turbo cars to good results so you could just fit a turbo and ecu etc.. problem would be sorting an ecu map for the now 2.5litre turbo..

Or you could transplant a 2litre Turbo with ecu..

Obviously gearbox is going to involve as you said, pedal box, you need to make sure you get a matching gearbox and rear diff so the diffs are the same final drive!

All right, so I have an ex stock impreza turbo exhaust manifold, uppipe, downpipe, turbo and IC, I have Unichip to take care of mapping, the issues are:
- how much boost will the 2.5 stock engine take
- where do I put the intercooler
Other than that I think we have it all sorted out.

So let me get this straight...

To turbocharge the EJ25 NA engine with some boost, all you need is a turbo exhaust manifold, uppipe and a downpipe, turbo and a TMIC?

I have a 1999 Legacy EJ25 Auto so in theory I can ECUTEK it to map it?

Nothing major boost wise, was thinking something like 0.5 bar just to make it a bit nippier.

You are going to have to sort air filter and intake pipework and intercooler and boost controller.. getting there other than that.. will need to run some water connections and oil connections to the turbo etc.. oh and a dump valve..
