TEK3 on an STi5, any must have mods before taking the plunge?
Hi,
Think I've decided to go for a TEK3 with Bob Rawle, seein as there's a group buy going on.
The car currently is largely standard but fitted with the following;
Full decat
Green Cotton Filter
with KL & PSi3 SECS
It looks like I'm gonna need the 3 port solenoid, which Bob charges 150 notes for. Am I right in thinking that these came off of older scoobs, in which case can I not pick one up myself from a scrappy or somewhere? I've currently got a Dawes fitted so I can fit it to the car without having to use it.
Are there any other recomended 'must have' mods that I should look at fitting before the remap, meaning 'cheapish' mods that are going to allow the best to be extracted from map.

Sounds like your in the same sort of situation I was in a couple months ago, you have the same sort of mods aswell.
Yes you can pick one cheaper, as they are standard on the new age, your best place is grade-a-subaru.
The items I got before I had the re-map done at BRD were:
NGKPFR7's - circa £35
Walbro fuel pump - circa £120
FSE 1:1 fuel pressure regulator (with gauge) - £95
The latter two you can get from Mark at Lateral performance.

standard fuel pump can be "iffy" on an STi5 Car (may not flow enough fuel esp when modded). Fuel Regulator may be needed as some OEM Fuel regs do not like upgraded pumps.
Don't think a 3 port solenoid is a must for safety, but I believe that Bob likes to map with these as they can control boost better than a 2 port.

3 port provides for more precise boost control, can map with whatever its just customer choice (budget). Using the two port leaves the boost more likely to vary with air temperature so it has to be mapped and set differently to avoid overboost.
