Split actuator hose...has it caused damage?
Found out yesterday that the boost hose off my actuator had split. For a few weeks now I have had a rattle when on WOT on boost. Now the hose has been replaced, the rattle has gone. I guess i've been running LOADS of boost. The question is, was it the turbo rattling? Is it likely to be damaged? Or was it bad dett. I could hear? Internal damage?
All sounds fine now, no rattling or knocking, but whats the likelyhood of damage having been done?
WHY DID I FLOG MY GAUGES AND KNOCKLINK!

Good point. Had fuel cut raised on my previous ECU but this one still has it. Where is the fuel cut on an 801 ECU? Maybe the hose only just split badly yesterday. Certainly haven't had any fuel cut hitting a brick wall type experiences.

Depends on how big the leak was, in effect it would act like a bleed valve. Also depends if it was before or after the restricter (by the Tee piece)
The ECU would be able compensate to some degree by closing the soloniod. IIRC the actuator only needs 6psi to open with the purge solonoid completely shut. The 14.5 or so psi is achived by bleeding off pressure to the actuator by opening and pulsing the purge soloniod.
If you still have the fuel cut, then it should cut if the boost goes too high
As for the rattling, could you describe what pitch and it what it sounded like?
It may have been pinking/knocking - unless you know what that sounds like.
If it was pinking, it could be possible that the leak may have shown up a fault elsewhere with the fueling/ignition due to it running higher boost, which is not good and may need further investigation.

The split was on the hose directly adjoining to the actuator, therefore after the t piece and restrictor, and after the pipe to the solenoid. The rattling sounded just like a metallic heat shield rattle, very audible from the inside.
Like I said, I didn't get fuel cut and have had no check engine light etc.
