2 long followed by3 short=23 MAF.followed by 1 long and 2 short.i understand the single long to be the start of a new code if this is corect what do the 2 short mean. any help would be appreciated.

I have left you a message I think, but I am keen to know how you are able to get the fault codes as I have a similar prob. AM@olchfa.org.uk
1 long and two short = code 12, which is the starter circuit mc1. Have you had problems with the starter motor or starter solenoid at any time in the past?
STi5300, if you have a classic shape car you can connect the two black plugs under the steering column and read any stored error events off the CEL light. If you have a new shape car you will need a Select Monitor, DeltaDash, SECS Monitor or similar.
More info here.
