GM We clean it thoroughly with something like cellulose thinners, a decent amount of 642 loctite then use the terminology ' F T '. The torque setting goes out the window, as they keep coming undone anyway. use our method and they don't. You won't strip either thread you can't generate that much energy on these components.

Cheers David, that takes the guesswork out!

Now all I've got to do is wait for the weather to get a tiny bit warmer, no way are my hands going anywhere near a gearbox when there's snow on the ground.

Can either of you guy's comment on this....http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=309428
what are your opinions ?
as it does not appear to be jumping out of 5th or having engaging problems, I expect it may be bearings.

I have been informed by a local mechanic (used to Scoobies) that it may be somting to do with 3rd & 5th, maybe a coupling bearing (can't remember what he said). BUT he reckons if it is, then that part alone is about £280 and that they would also change the main shaft bearings as a matter of course.

Read the thread, That's one of those deals where you need to sit in and hear for yourself. Next to impossible to offer anything that hasn't been said already otherwise. Sorry can't really be more help. David API
