I know David could make them, but does he want to/have time to? David? If so is it easier to make them in a batch? Are you interested in doing a few sets at once?

John,

Do you want spacers or thermal insulators?

The shop that made mine up saved the program to make more, but I haven't sourced suitable material (Andy sent me a piece for mine). Assuming I can, I'm happy to get more made up.

Sounds great Richard.

Alan they reduce the effects of heatsoak into your inlet manifold and should produce a cooler consisent charge temperature.

What material they made out of? I always thought you made them from alloy. I may be able to get a friend to make a few sets.

Ceramic will insulate better than alloy which won't really insulate very much at all.

The (phase 2) set I have for my build are some form of PTFE plasticky type stuff. If we can identify the material, and where to buy it from, then I can get a price for making more up.

Mine;

I have been thinking about this mod to be able to increase the inlet pipe diameter, the thermal insulation is a bonus, whats the complete list of parts needed for this, besides the spacers, just bolt changes?
Would that Corian type solid surfacing material be suitable for this? I know I have acess to that, and alloy.

Anyone got dimensions for these? If you have a *** packet sketch I can generate an engineering drawing for our machine shop? Then if you pick a suitable material we can probably come up with a good price.

Mike

All you need to do is copy the Ph.1 or Ph.2 inlet manifold gaskets.

A popular choice of material is 10mm thick Glass Filled Nylon 66.

If you are serious about being able to make these I can send you a Ph.1 gasket to copy.

I made mine for my Phase 2 in DW's garage, and made the template, which DW now has.

John, now my car is off the road, and yours is intending to be back on the road ASAP, then if you really need some, you can use mine, and i will make some more up.

Thanks Steven, manifold is already back on so no rush, probably something I'll do when I fit the iON turbo as I'll need to fiddle with the inlet pipe to fit it and the manifold being off will be a convenient thing.

Not sure gf nylon 66 is a good choice as a) it absorbs water b) there are
other more insulating and readily available materials out there. Have a look at this:
http://www.matweb.com/search/Specifi...?bassnum=O2514

Glass filled abs has about half the thermal conductivity of gf nylon, or gf pbt
other grades of nylon are also suitable.

Anyone have any idea how hot these will get?

Regards

Mike

I guess the head surface to the gasket may get to 150 centigrade at shut down.
Where would you get the best material for the job?

Harvey, you've been here before.

There was also a 22B thread with some info.
