Question How often do ECU's need resetting?

As Title says do ECU's need resetting on a regularish basis.

I only ask as Over the last couple of months car was running fine
then had some bad optimax, and performance took a dive.
Filled up with new and booster and reset ecu, away she goes again.

This week the ecu seemed to start behaving odd fueling, retarding and then
only boosting to 0.5bar like limp mode.

I checked maf -swapped with mates, and boost solenoid. no different.

I reset the ecu and she's back to normal.

Are car ECU's like computers? I work using top spec workstations and somedays they just aren't as fast, and they do lock up and crash sometimes.

Is a car ecu basically the same, do they sometimes have to be reset to standard due to varying levels of octane fuel etc, and after a time of
varying values they simply need a clearout?

I'm not saying mine does it regularly just wondered if a reset every now and
again is a routine maintainance type thing.

Cheers

WW
