Reckon mine is knackered due to the burning oil smell I have had for about 2 -3 months. Hardly loosing any oil as such - how long do these typically 'hold on' for - assuming I can stand the stink of the burning oil???

They tend to "hang on" for ages. Mine leaked for about 6 months until I got my act together and resealed it. If its leaking too much i'd get it done sooner rather than later as it could be a fire hazard.

When I have the heater on warm (24 C and above) I get a smell coming into the cabin... but don't reckon I am losing oil.

Looks like mine could be on the way out too then.

How can I accurately diagnose this, and how can I fix it (damn... wish the search facility was functioning!)?

Mine does not appear to loose much oil either but I do not think it requires much to make the smell. I hope it lasts for a while anyway!

They don't tend to fail completely as they're made of rubber. They just carry on weeping.
