Talking ECU reset

If you reset the ecu (MY98 Sti) how long does it take for the ecu to re learn?
Should you drive steady while its doing it or drive it harder etc?

(In my MY98 Sti) It takes about 20-50 miles for the ECU to learn. I drive mine hard and i see the odd spike on the knocklink a couple of times and then its fine... the power comes back after a good 5-10 miles. I noticed this after fitting my FMIC and didn't notice any difference in power for the first few miles but after about 10miles i noticed a big difference.
