Default Sports Cat's ?

How good are they in comparison to a decat?

I've heard that you can get through an emmisions test with a sports cat, but highly unlikely with a decat.

Do you need a remap with a sports cat?

How much and which are best.

Sorry about the list of questions, i'm just trying to weigh up the options.

By the way, it's for a P1 (single cat in downpipe), if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris, AFAIK the P1 has a relatively sporty cat to start with. I too would like to know it's limits as otherwise, Miltek or GGR sports cats may be attractive options.

Check out www.p1woc.co.uk for more info.

Modern cars don't pass MOTs without a cat or cats in the exhaust.

The P1 downpipe cat is the same dimensions as a std one and will flow the same as any std classic d/pipe section.
The only difference is the special catalyst coating used. This will stand a higher EGT and aid a better breakdown of combustion products helping to ensure emissions compliance.
Prodrives words, not mine.

I have the TSL ThunderCAT sportscat downpipe fitted, which make a large noticeable difference to power across the range. They categorically state that this will pass emissions checks (don't know if it is a cast-iron legal guarantee though).

Sorry I can't give you a more objective comparison - all I can say is that it is a worthwhile power-increasing addition!
