MY95 WRX ECU into UK?

This may be a really dumb question, but can I fit a MY95 WRX ECU into a UK Spec car? And will I get a performance boost?
Originally I didn't think this would be possivble, but just read someones post who talks about replacing his WRX ECU with a UK ECU one. So can I swap these around?
