Best Non-exhaust system Bhp incr??
#1
What's the best way of boosting the BHP and torque without touching the exhaust system? An idea of cost would be of use too! So far I have the following: Anti-Lift, Anti Roll Bat + links, Ram Pod Air Filter, and a Brake Support Bracket.
Any advice on future upgrades?
Also, what do people think of the dump valves? Are they any good? I've heard that they can crack the surrounding systems!!!! Do they make a nice hissing sound when they kick in?

Induction, ECU, new turbo with front mounted intercooler. Expensive +++
Link ECU or Unichip. Superchip if you like dicing with detonation.
Or a boost controller £500? eg HKS EVC IV
I went the PPP option with downpipe and induction.

The only way to do this is to up the boost.
Cheap solution with only minor gains:
Manual Boost Controller (MBC) ~£50 tops - If done with care and within certain limits a manual bleed valve does work.
DO NOT remove the ECU's boost limiter (fuel cut). These have proven to be a bit fiddly to set up, since boost behaves differently depending on revs and load...and ambient conditions.
Electronic Boost Controller (EBC) ~£400 - A bit more expensive, basically it does the same thing as a bleed valve, but has some advantages:
1. Most ebc's can adapt to your cars behaviour, and keep boost stable.
2. EBC's usually has several settings (scramble, low, high and so on).
The other way is to get a full remap, this is expensive, but will increase power much more, and you'll be sure that the car runs well (depends on the mappers ability...), and you've got the possibilty to remap once you decide to change that peashooter 'zorst.
Right now there are 2 alternatives (that's still fairly echonomical):
1. Unichip at Powerstation ~900 IIRC with an EBC for boost control.
This is a piggyback solution that alters ignition, boost and fuelling inputs to the stock JECS ecu. The advantages is that you won't have to fiddle about with the everyday stuff (idle, cold/hot start and so on).
The downsides are that you'll have to get back to the mapper for a remap after that zorstchange, and the fact that it still needs to retain the MAF-sensor (prone to failure when induction kits are used, with possible disaster to follow).
2. Possum Link at BRDevelopments ~£12-1300 incl. everything you need.
This is a completely new ECU that replaces the old JECS one.
The advantages are that it's actually quite easy to alter the map once the mapper has done his handywork (this requires some knowledge on how things work), and that you can bin the MAF-sensor.
The disadvantages are the everyday stuff...in some cars hot start and idle has been a bit fiddly to sort, and the fact that it's very easy to get it VERY wrong if you don't know what you're doing.
I'd say - change the exhaust, there are alternatives if you don't like the car to wake the dead - then look at a remap.

No Ron, I be the stoopid one! LOL. I got a little carried away I suppose, I've just had those mods done and still love them to death! Couldn't help meniotning them!!
