Forge Dump Valve On P1?
#2
Hi Marty
I had a dump to atmospheric one on a UK spec MY00 but not a P1. I've read several comments saying they don't work and mess up the fueling when changing gear, but I can assure you they do improve the time it takes to reboost after changing gear.
I didn't think they did much until I changed mine back to standard then realised how slow it boosted after a gear change.
Yes they do run rich momentarily hence the flame out, and there was a few! But Forge say they don't affect the running of the car when the computer thinks it's running rich and leans it off! If you know what I mean.

I think the difference is mostly noise.
The standard dump valve shouldn't need re[placing unless it is leaking. When running higher boost you may find that the standard dump valve gets blown open, but if on standard boost the standard dunp valve is not leaking there should be no difference.

I have a vent to atmosphere Forge, and I believe the statements previously about it allowing spool easier after shift. I have turned mine back to normal once now and shifting is definitely improved with the Forge.
I have a MY02 WRX and my turbo guru tells me the stock valve is good to ~19psi, so you dont really HAVE to switch the factory diverter out until you get close to that mark.

I have a recirc Forge Dump valve - it certainly holds boost better at the higher levels of boost that I run. When required it blows off faster, and it can be modified so you can set it to release more of less boost as is appropriate, i.e. it can be made to maintain low levels of boost between changes.
This is on an Sti V, same config as a P1.

Recirc is the way to go IMHO. But it wont make much difference unless you are running high boost as Trout says. My old one started leaking at 1.3 bar and that's why I changed. With the Induction kit is sounds like a dump to atmos one ;-)
