Question

I'm thinking about filling the passion wagon up with some Shell Optimax ... to get the benefits of this 'in excess of 98RON' fuel, will my ECU need to be re-mapped to run on this grade of fuel ( I've got my 37500 mile service approaching, just come back from gallivanting through Europe - the missus is from Croatia )

Any advice????

Cheers
Phil

Phil,

Do you mean remapped or reset?

If you have a std ECU then I think it's a reset your asking about.

If your car is pre '99 then an ECU reset is probably the quickest way of enjoying the benefits of Optimax, although in my experience the car will run smoother even without the reset (may take a tankful to get rid of the un-optimax).

Hope this helps.

Phil,

My MY98 also has an ITG and full Scoobysport system, I have (due to circumstances beyond my control) switched between Optimax and regular Shell Super a few times before my local Shell Station got it's Optimax supply, the first time I reset the ECU and noticed the difference almost immediately, since then I haven't bothered and its taken 1/2 to 1 tankful before the effects can be felt.

The exhaust definitely sounds deeper and pops and bangs more with Optimax

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info Andrew ... took the plunge and put a full tank of Optimax in last night. Done c. 100 mile since and I must admit it already feels smoother in its pick-up and more responsive (don't think it's psychological! ). I've got a MY99 Turbo 4dr with Scoobysport exhaust and ITG panel filter. Will let you know what my verdict is once I've gone through a few tanks worth.

Cheers
Phil
