Question

I got a full catless SS system on my00.
Today it started playing up ticking along at some speed the pedal was just about being touched in 5th, the car felt like it was surging, the power sort of pulsing up and down as if I was giving some gas.

When I pulled off the road to a roundabout when pulling away she was holding back for a moment then the power kinda kicked in.

If I take her back to the main dealer am I likely to get "sorry non standar not covered response"?
Has anyone had this type of problem fixed under warranty with similar mods done?

Cheers

John

Depends where you take it really

Some dealers will refuse outright whilst others will say that what IM don't know won't hurt them

I'll mail you with details of one dealer I know to be sympathetic to the odd modification

Why not take it to Scoobysport or another specialist? They can put it on their select monitor and tell you whether the MAF, MAP and lambda sensors are all working.

Your problem does not sound like overboost as you were on really light throttle. But what rpm were you at - when you say ticking along at some speed do you mean the idle speed? Does it still go under full throttle? Does it start OK or splutter? Does the check engine light come on?

Just a guess from what you say - could be the lambda sensor - which screws into the downpipe - and can obviously gets disturbed during the change over. This could affect idling and mixture.

After MY00 PPP I had overboost problems which the dealer fixed - quite rightly. After I got a DP fitted elsewhere and put an induction kit on, I though when it overboosted again I should sort it out myself. So a boost gauge - and problem sorted and a trip to a specialist to check no error codes and not running lean/knocking etc.

Your warranty is worthless if IM get involved.
I have extended warranty and garage diagnosed slap. Subaru engineer listened and confirmed slap when cold and a bit when hot. Also noted EVERY non std Subaru part.
Was informed that the rising rate fuel regulator and exhaust mods probably caused excess stress on engine which could have caused slap. I mentioned that slap was a common problem on std cars, but he would not have it. It seems that this is IM's getout for ANY problem regardless if the mod could relate to the prob or not.
It says clearly in the warranty that it is void if any non-std parts are fitted so don't expect them to honour ANY claims even if not connected with the fault !!
They also do not refund any/all extnded warranty (which I asked for as it seems £588 paid a month earlier is completely wasted).
