Currently running an ITG panel filter and bearing in mind the MAF debate ( oops ) which one are the majority of you P1 owners going with and with what results.
Thanks in anticipation.

Isn't there a scoop which fits on, or instead of the air vent thingy over the airbox. That would gaurantee fresh cool air entering the a cone airfilter.

I'm sure I've seen one on a scoob, but can't think where.

Anyone??

Hi Mellow

Not got a P1 (yet - thinking about it), but for what it's worth, here's my experience: On my MY00 I have run at various stages, the standard filter, K+N panel filter, HKS and (currently) the ITG panel. I have to be honest and say I didn't notice a startling difference with any of them. A full decat exhaust made a huge difference , but the filters don't seem to have made that much of an improvement.

As far as I understand these things, once you are on the move the air temperature across the engine bay is almost exactly the same as that drawn in from the outside. There may well be more efficient ways of getting the air into the engine (such as the APS kit that sits in the wing), but I believe their effect is limited. I'll probably get shot down in flames for this and many people will tell you different, but personally I'm sticking to the ITG.

Cheers
Chris

Appreciate your reply Chris, having a MY00 it's got the same potential MAF failure problem as the P1.
I'm currently on a ITG panel filter, full de cat Scorpion zorst etc....I have heard lots of good things about the K&N 57i system, that seems to be the possible way to go ?

I'm looking seriously at the APS inner-wing solution. I'm not convinced about performance enhancements - I expect a *small* improvement, and given the wing solution the sounds should be better - but not overbearing.

The main reason for me to choose an induction kit is to make room where all the resonator/airbox is for a water spray kit!!

CharliePsycho,

Fair play to you mate, was thinking about doing the same myself. A mate of mine, has found on Induction kit, that guaranties if the MAF sensor goes they will replace it FOC. The owner has had one on his P1 for year with no problems.

E-mail me if you need details.

Chris

K&N is worth a go - might sound better I think K&N are launching a new inner wing filter system aswell (although I think this will be for the MY01 first and older models later). I've used K&N on several of my cars over the years and never had a problem. I think a lot of the MAF sensor failures have been down to poor fitting - the Scoob does seem to be sensitive to this. I would assume that the P1 would be as sensitive to the MAF problem as the earlier models were.

I'd be tempted to look at the APS system as well. I've seen some threads on this recently and I think NewAgeMotorsport can supply them in the UK.

HI Chris (and all)

MAF issues aside for the mo, The problem that we find when testing Induction kits is that although they allow superior induction flow, the air that they are drawing in is MUCH warmer... even with MOST of the ducting kits.

When running the kits with thermal probes, the ambient heat from the engine often offsets the possible gains from the kit. Warm air obviously has less molecules per cubic centimetre to ignite than cold air

So you are often back where you started.

The standard induction set up, although a little tortuous in its path, does scoop a fair bit of cold air in.

Cheers

It's Macs Power in Ireland who give the MAF guarantee. The filter is a K&N, but larger than the standard 57i kit. Price is about 200 quid I think.

Their details are...
Paul McLoughlin MY00
Mac's Power Motorsport
UK (00353) 86 8797512
Ireland 086 8797512

Very good service, btw.

Cheers

Wink

I've put a Blitz on my STi, £145+vat(sidc discount available?).
Gained bhp aplenty, but harmonics a bit annoying at some throttle settings.
See in Southern section under Bournemouth rolling road meet, or in Members gallery, same topic.
