Question

I have an 89 RS Legacy down here in New Zealand and it's in race trim for sprints and hillclimbs etc.

Anyway - I have resently replaced the IHI VF8 turbo with an IHI VF23 roller bearing unit from a Version 5 WRX STI along with everything that sits on the block to accomodate it properly.

Looking at the injectors now and I have some that have a yellow coloured top on them rather than the stock grey - from what I can gather they should be higher flowing than stock but I really don't know, does anyone know ?

I'm wanting to run comfortable and reliable at 320 HP so need to make sure that fuel delivery is not a problem...help with that subject would be appreciated.

Macker,

Stock injectors on a V5 are 440cc, and will be fine for 320bhp. The greys are 380cc.

Thanks but I don't know that the injectors are from a Ver 5, they were in the manifold that I bought which came off a wrecked Twin turbo legacy...the manifold was the same as the STI unit and all I had to do was buy the single turbo air intake...

So long story short all I know is that the injectors are yellow and that they don't leak ... are all yellow ones 440cc ??

Also will the stock fuel pump keep up ? I'm going to build a surge tank and could fit a higher volume pump as well.

440cc injectors are yellow (mine are anyway).

The stock Subaru pumps that we have tested were definitely not up to the job. I've replaced mine with a motorsport pump which is capable of flowing almost double the volume of the old at high pressure. I was going to opt for a surge tank but a foam fuel cell in the existing tank did the job.

Isn't the STI 5 a VF28 as standard? IIRC, the VF23 only came on STI 3 and 22B cars as standard.

I know the Legacy used 480cc injectors (not certain what years) but, the 480cc's are also yellow.
