Clutch and Flywheel questions
#1
As i virtually destroyed my clutch at the Banzai Thrash yesterday i have a few questions for those in the know.
From reading prvious posts i think its best that i went for a AP organic clutch, but do any of the Jap or Aussie manufactuers do one at a competative price?
Secondly, i know that its worth getting the flywheel skimmed at the same time, but what exactly are the gains from haveing a lightened and balanced flywheel? How will it change the driving feel of the car? If its worth doing, what weight of flywheel is best?
Help appreciated

Walker, not sure about where/what type clutch to get. But the flywheel I might be able to shed a little help.
The flywheel as standard comes out of the factory in a semi-decent balance. So trying to re-balance it would also require the front pully, crank, flywheel and clutch getting balanced all at the same time.
Getting it lightened, be careful not to go to light. Lightening will effect the idle some what. Depending on how light, the standard is about 10/11 kilos, try somewhere around the 7/8 kilo mark. The effect this will have is when the engine is making progression everything should be smoother, and more responsive.
Hope I've got this side of it correct. But then again people will put me/it to rights.

I had an AP Formula organic clutch and new flywheel (my flywheel was cracked and 'blueing' due to getting v. hot!) fitted today at Roger Clark motorsport. The clutch kit was £336.57 + vat, and the flywheel was £213.22 + vat. Dunno about the labour, as mine was swapped when the engine was out for head gasket work, but suffice to say, it is excellent, with a nice smooth, light action and good bite!

Paul,
I've got a BPM flywheel in mine - weighs 6.9kgs or so - I don't think the cost is much more than £350ish - maybe even less.
AP organic clutches are lovely - way better than std - mine seems to be struggling a little now though - not sure why
