Hi Guys,

I've got engine probs in my MY94 UK Turbo. 99K miles. It looks like the engines coming out and the heads are coming off for more diagnosis. Please offer me your best guess at the failure. I will post the answer here when I have it....

Symptons:
* 2 cylinders (offside bank) @ low compression (lower than nearside bank)
* Coil packs, plugs & injectors believed to be good (swapped with known good items)
* No nasty noises
* No nasty smells / smoke
* Power down - but still goes about as well as a non turbo
* Fully serviced (recently had oil change)
* It went pretty suddenly - I first noticed excess vibration through the gearstick - then a loss of power.

Possibilities...

A. Cylinder head gasket (blowing between cylinders)
B. Piston rings
C. Valves
D. Other

OK - Cast your votes! (and wish me luck). See..

If its low compresion on one side and no smoke it will be either the head gasket, burnt valves or broken rocker gear.

wont be rings as smoke would be present and you would have oil coming out of the breathers into the airbox.

Hi Guys,

The cars sold - I'll try and find out what happened when the engine finally gets taken to bits and let you all know!

Thanks for the contributions!

How about the timing belt having jumped a tooth on one side (cam timing badly out, but not enough to hit a piston?)

Head gasket probably though...

Cheers,

Alex

Thanks Alex - I'm guessing the skipped a tooth theory is flawed - why would compression be low? Anyway - not my prob now....
