Any point putting on a std P1 backbox ??
#1
Hi everyone,
I have been offered a std P1 backbox and wondered if it was worthwhile putting this on instead of the std one on my MY99 wagon.
Will it just improve the looks or will the sound/performance be better ?
Cheers

cant say the noise aspect will be an improvement, had mine on for just one day b4 i swapped it for a stainless. look better than the twin tail standard job though.
If youre after noise as well as looks get an aftermarket back box

£325 for a new std P1 back box, thats an awful lot of money , hopefully I won't be paying that much.
As for noise, is it more noisy inside the car or just on the outside ? I have been warned that the wagon is susceptable to noise coming in through the boot floor.

You paid £325 for a P1 back box exhaust??? Are you sure its a P1 exhaust? You say its very noisy, I just cant believe it.
I swapped my P1 mid and rear section for a mongoose, and thats very very very noisy compared to standard items. There was hardly any noise at all beforehand and now it roars.
Surely a scoobysport backbox is cheaper or around that price? And i know they sound good

I think we're getting confused here.
The standard P1 exhaust has STi embossed on the side. It is no louder than the standard back, just a little deeper. Basically good for those of us who just want 'the look'. You can get them in 'Private' for around £30-60 normally. Mostly new as the owner swaps them for ...
... The P1 WR exhaust. An extra at around £300 from the dealer. This is a different matter as it does sound much better and is a Subaru item from Prodrive.
Personally I went for a Magnex back and centre, sounds great!!!
