Link ECU on MY01 WRX
#1
Aparently a Link ECU is now available for the MY01 WRX. Ive waited 8 months for the PPP to be released but have given up waiting !!!!
Has anyone any information on this? I've done a search on the Link - seems a great bit of kit - but i've read they dont do a version for the Phase II engine?? I take it thats now not the case. How much do they cost and who sells them???
What are the benefits of this over say a PPP kit? Better power???
Would this allow the tuner to match the car to a DP (i want a SS full system - but cant have it and a PPP) and system.
Anyone got a Link and care to share your experiences??
Thanks
Jza

I ain't got a link, but...
In short, PPP for the MY01 is an ECU remap from prodrive to give better grunt along with a decat centre section, new backbox and uprated intercooler pipework. You don't get a new ECU (I believe) as the ECU in MY01> is remappable, unlike the <=MY00... £1600 quid.
LINK is a fully mappable ECU allowing you to do what the hell you like - have an ultra safe map with lots of torque, or go a bit further... If you change the breathing, you can change the map to ensure that you're still running the right amount of fuel etc to get absolute safety and maximum output.
The Link requires a skilled mapper. Just look at the thread concerning mapping the link and you'll get some idea of what's involved!
I don't know whether any of the tuners, specifically Bob Rawle, will have had a chance to play with Link on an MY01 yet, but it may be worth giving him an email.
Be warned that he's probably pretty busy and he may want to do some testing rather than just bunging something into the MY01 without experimenting with the map, so if you're local to him it may be better?
Patience will be a virtue with this, especially to get everything how you want it, as every car requires slightly different teasing to produce the best. This appears to be an iterative process, so do be prepared to spend the time to get it right!

Jza/Dave T-S,
In the same situation as you, pi55ed off waiting for the mythical PPP to arrive, very interested in options, mail me off line details if possble ? thanks.
simon.
p.s. in this months Japanese Performance Car there is a advert for a "Superchips Anti-Boost Cut" for the MY01 WRX, which apparently enables higher boost to be run. Anyone have any experience of this device?

PCB, from the very title, the "anti boost cut" sounds like a Bad Thing (tm) to me.
Boost cut, in the form of overboost protection, is a Good Thing as it protects your engine. Removing this is definitely a Bad Thing.

Hell, that's a difficult decision
Dave, your clandestine actions are now forgiven . I had a very 'ello'ello image of you running around in little white socks with a raincoat and beret - still, if it makes you (and mrs T-S) happy...

Not sure if Bob Rawle minds if i quote him (ill remove it if you want Bob!) - but got this reply: SOUNDS GREAT!!!
"The new ecu is on its way to us (first one) and I will be checking
it out over the next month to make sure that it does all that it should and
that I'm happy with it, then it will be available as per our normal service.
The Scooby sport system is as good as any, it will suit the Link on a UK car
very well, only if you upgraded the turbo would you need something different
possibly.
Link will be ideal for your requirements, I would expect you to get torque
into the 270/280 ft lb area with p[oer in the 260/270 area but it depends on
which rolling road its measured, the figs I quoted would be typical on the
PE rollers for example. You will get greatly improved throttle response and
part throttle driving.
The job takes one day and I would want you to be involved as I customise the
ecu to suit the driver. the mapping is done on the road.
Bob"
I'm definately up for some of that!! Sounds like a great idea if you've already got an aftermarket exhaust system. And you'll probably get it before a PPP!!!
NICE ONE BOB!!!!
