Question

Unit says: "Electronic Valve controller" and there is a serial number on the back: "V
III18053"

Is it an HKS evc IV??

If it says Electronic Valve Controller on it, then it's a HKS EVC. Bear in mind there have been other generations of EVC, but if it's a 4, it will say HKS EVC IV on it somewhere.

Can't check mine at the moment, as the car is in for some work!

Cheers
Andy

PS - I'll let you know when I get my car back!

Thanks Andy - any more info will be gratefully received!

Basically I've been after one of these for a little while and I've been given dibs on one, but I don't know if it's a version IV one. The guy says it's HKS but with no version number. Are the version IV ones any better than the older ones?

Got a price of around £160 for it - does this sound alright?

Cheers,

Andy

This is fairly useless conjecture, but if the serial starts with "V III" then it looks like a V3 to me?

I guess if Andy's starts with V IV then there's a pattern

Nito retails this - he's a helpful and thoroughly nice chap, perhaps it's worth giving him a mail? His website -

Nick - yeah I was starting to think along those lines; damn you got there before me!

Next question - what is the difference between EVC III and EVC IV?

You can download installation manuals for both HKS EVC III and IV from here.

Guys,

from what I've read so far, there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of difference (feature wise) between the III and the IV.

I have a little concern about the performance of the III taking the MR2 owners account of the installation. Does anyone know if there were improvements in the fuzzy-logic control stratagies on the IV?

Next question - is this thing easy to fit? How many bits are there?

Cheers,

Andy
