Launch control?
#1
As some of may be aware, or some not, I drive a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Version IV Type-r Coupe, with the following mods:
Link Ecu
HKS Superfire Spark Plugs
BRD Hybrid(4) IFI VF22 Turbo
Forge Re-circulation dump-valve
HKS Racing Suction Kit
BPM Twin-Dump 38 Downpipe
HKS Hiper Exhaust System
I am going to be doing the sprints, and I was wondering if a launch control device exists
i.e. I don't have to worry making sure the revs are at 4000rpm (believe that is the right amount, so no wheel spin, and enough for boost), and all I have to do is put my foot down on the accelator, and lift of the clutch and weeehhhhaaaaaay!
So, what devices are around that do this for the impreza?

ChristianR,
Get yourself a 'soft-cut' rev limiter for under 100 pounds.
This allows you to set a separate rev limiter. Set it to 4000rpm and then put a switch in the cockpit. I used a hol down to make, release to break kind of switch (like a horn button).
Sit on the line, hold the button down, floor the throttle. The revs will hold at 4000rpm, your boost gauge will indicate a few psi of boost (4 psi on my GT4) and you'll get lots of bangs and pops and smaoke .
Light goes green (or whatever) and you bring the clutch up. Once the clutch has bitten and you are moving you release the button and the car drives normally, with normal rev limiter.
Advantage is that you won't get bogged down as you bring the clutch up as the car is making good boost and you are already at full throttle. Also, the bangs and pops are fun
Links for just some of the available rev limters:

I hillclimbed my UK94 last season, you may find that 4000 is a little low
I found that around 4000 is bogged down off the line, whereas around 5000 is initially spun all 4 then bit until second gear where it spun all 4 again when the boost increased.
I did toy with the idea of fitting traction control or a rev limiter system, but its sooo quick off the line my hands were busy as they were. You cannot take your hand off the g/lever to the wheel and get it back in time for second gear. Combine that with a twich off the line which needs a little bit of corrective lock and things get a little busy.
Haven't hillclimbed the Subaru this season (in a Pug 205 GTi) but it will be getting an outing later in the season - just for old times sake.
Cheers
