Hello,

On my MY98 Sportswagon, I have a scoobysport backbox. In combination with 98 octan fuel and a Ramairfilter, it has 235 bhp and 336 Nm of torque (original was 211 bhp and 290 Nm). Powerengineering is selling a "power manifold", that increases the power of the engine with 25 bhp... CAN I BELIEVE THIS?
Who has already installed this on his car and what are the results of your dynotest?
And what about the fuel consumption???

You can't get 25bhp without increasing boost.

A power manifold may lower backpressure in front of the turbo and therefore you will get some gains but not 25bhp.

Are you sure about the figure? We sell front headers as well and I would advise against such a conversion unless you are running serious power that has involved some engine building.

Power engineering for some time had the Jun Auto manifold up on the wall for sale which looked like a work of art but you paid for it as well. They also had a review in a japanese magazine for it which showed the 25BHP gain but this was not at the top end but lower down the rev range.

This would be consitent with the switch to the equal length manifold setup. The unequal length setup does have some unusal effects with exhaust gas pulsing.

You have to remember that part of the design of the standard item is noise reduction so it isnt desgined vor best gas flow but a compromsie setup as has been seen already from the center sections in the exhaust that quite noticeable improvements can be made by removing the silencer boxes.

I have just had a power manifold fitted, and the claims are entirely true, and I have dyno tests to prove it.

I gained more than 25bhp between 4000 & 5500 rpm. I also gained more than 25lbft of torque between 2250 & 5250 rpm on my UK 99MY Turbo 2000. This increase was measures before & after fitting.

The Power Engineering Manifold I bought is from Maxim Racing in Japan.

You do lose the throbbing sound from the exhaust, but that is a good thing in my opinion. The engine now sounds far less upset when you take it to the red line. It also cures after market back box migraines !

I now have a complete PE T75 & Manifold exhaust system, and have 257BHP & 261lbft at 18.8C ambient temperature. And get this: Max torque is now at about 3000rpm!

Good question, I am also curious about it because I have Prodrive PP's ECU and I am interest for the PE manifold.
But I am also curious if the manifold affects the reliability of the car!
I asked this in a previous topic with no answer.
PS:If anybody wants, I have photos from 8 or more different manifolds (equal or no) and internet addresses.

Just noticed this topic. Lots of people in Australia have been using exhaust headers for a number of years now on Scoobs. Can't really say which brands but alot were custom made from different exhaust shops and some designed by engine tuners. I didn't have a scoob back then so I didn't really concentrate. I had it all in front of me. But now I wish I had concentrated as there are no scoob specialists here in Greece. I'm learning the hard way now. Headers in Oz were installed on cars with smaller mods, such as increased boost, induction kits, re maps and exhausts, then also with the bigger mods such as larger turbos and fmics. I have not heard of headers hurting the car on a less modified car, but obviously on cars with less mods there usually is a smaller gain in power than on cars with bigger mods, again depending on different types of headers. And the burbly sound does smooth out to a sound I personally like less than the non header cars.

Russel's car blew up just moments after he took the Power Engineering rechip off his car! On a magazine shoot at an airfield.

Fortunately for Russel he had a UK 22B and the engine that grenaded was rebuilt under warantee, so it did not cost him a bean!

Personally I chose Scoobysport equal length headers which produced even more power on a bench dyno. Therefore a credible increase in power but only because the maestro Bob Rawle was there to map for me

Hi Anders I now own Russells 22B can you tell me some of the history on this car or do you have an email address for Russell.
Are the engine internals standard etc?
