My MY98 has developed a loud metallic clatter like a machine gun when going round moderately sharp left hand corners with loads of power on. Also there's grease round the driveshaft boot on that side, but no sign of a split in the boot (just checked it very carefully on the MoT). Sounds like a Mini CV joint failure if anyone is that old. Question is, are Imprezas known to suffer cv failures?

I have permanent CV paranoia after one failed on a previous (non scoob) car. They probably are prone to failure a little more than most due to the punishing they get.

Hi,

I distantly remember that MY97 and some MY98 had their driveshaft boots filled with the wrong grease at the factory. It leaked out as it became too thin when warm.

I believe the dealers were supposed to re-pack it with the correct grease.

If the CV joint is clicking it is probably knackered and should be changed. Is your car still under warranty?.

Cheers,

Alex
