Popping out of Gear
#1
Just for the record,I have recently experienced my car popping out of first gear (and occasionally second).
It tended to happen in slow moving stop/start traffic, or when going down an incline, with the engine/box under load.
I mentioned it to my dealer when the car went in for 30K service (see my other thread 'So Good dealers DO exist' in general)
Anyway, luckily they came across the same problem, and have replace the 1st/2nd gear set whatever that might be: sorry.techno dimwit here

After my clutch was changed my car started popping out of 1,3&5th gear, this was because the spring which moves the gearleaver back to the centre had been incorrectly adjusted.
Not sure this is the same problem, a friend had a MY97 which popped out of 2nd often, eventually the gearbox gave up altogether and had to be rebuilt (unfortunately only about 2k out of warranty!).

the prob u got is more common on legacys and foresters and is due to there being a slight machining difference between two faces that meet so it doesn't get the full contact it should and pops out usally on overrun
or thats what i've been told!
