Anyone had this problem before or has any suggestions as to cause?

On Sunday my MY99 started to suffer from very erratic performance. Put your foot down and it takes off, 30 seconds later do the same and it feels like no turbo!.
Yesterday morning, keeping the revs down while it warmed up then after about 5 miles hard driving it suddenly refused to go above 2500RPM (just judders) and won't idle. If you hold the throttle down slightly it will idle and pull up to 2500RPM as normal.

Did the Check Engine light not come on?? Sounds like the car has gone into "Limp Home Mode" or even better "Limp To The Dealer Mode".

Get your dealer to check it out....

Did you have the aircon on. If so look at my thread down the drivetrain page, under, can aircon cause engine problems.

WREXY,
Does sound kind of similar, i did have the aircon on when it started but it now does it all the time aircon on or off, engine cold or warmed up.

Just called the dealer, they still don't know whats wrong with it!!!!!!

Opinions please, is this going to turn out to be something silly like a split pipe or more serious turbo failure etc?

Thought you maybe interested to know that it was the idle sensor and air flow sensor. Kind of strange that they both failed together, or is there a common cause?

Thanks for letting us know the outcome. I don't know if it's common for both sensors to give up at the same time though.

Had a similar problem recently although at 1800rpm. Diagnosed as dirty MAF wires (I've got a K&N panel filter). Quick blast of Brake & Clutch cleaning fluid onto the wires (from each side) cured the problem, £2.50 a tin from Halfords etc.
