more engine problems

A friend of mine has a rattle on his bottom end its not to bad at the moment,if you raise the revs and at about 2 to 2500rpm there's a rattle/growly sound from the center right of the engine, does this sound like the big ends to you? its an STI version 5 and coverd 20.000 miles only.
the big question is what sort of money is he looking at to repair this, anyone had there's done recently for comparision in price, any if it were yours would you trust it again or just sell it?

Sounds like the big end if it is a metallic sounding noise. If the noise is getting worse it is definately a bearing failure. If there is any doubt (at all) take it too a specialist ASAP. Did he recently run it at high rpm?

he hasnt had it long so he is going to see the dealer he got it from and see what they say, i think he is concerned it will happen again later on after it is fixed at big expense to him? not sure as for high revs but im sure it will have been don't they all.

tell him to get it looked at ASAP.
on my V4 it didn't take long between the onset of metallic noises and total engine destruction....ok being a bit overdramatic there.
sort it early - means the difference between crank, 1 rod, bearings and crank, all rods, pistons, rebore, main bearings, big end bearings......
basically double the price.
most of the engine builders I spoke to said they don't go again once you've rebuilt them,.....
may just be because after you've broken it once you don't rev it as hard...
Sieze - is yours all fixed now?
