How to prevent MY98 engine from going "bang"...
#1
Hello!
There seem to be a lot of MY98 engines that go bang and/or have serious engine problems. I heard about problems with piston 3 that can run lean and other things (?).
I own a MY98 and want to modifiy it to higher boost and bigger turbo.
MRT Rally from Australia offered me a fuel rail kit for the right side of the car costs are 450A$. Could this kit save my engines life or are there other known problems with that engine?
How about the Powerstation kit? Seems to be expensive?
greetings

Ric,
Go for upgraded fuel pump, bigger injectors, adjustable fuel regulator, bigger intercooler, bigger turbo, aftermarket ECU,knock link and A/F meter and 1.2 bar boost for daily driving and 1.3 bar on weekends and your engines should be fine. That's what I did on my MY98.I do the injectors, pump and regulator mod, rather than fuel rails but you probably need an aftermarket ECU to control the extra fuelling.
