Engine rattle on JDM Sti7
#1
Very bad rattle from engine starts at about 3000rpm up but no loss of performance. Have taken the car back to the garage, they got the waranty people to come down to take a listen and they said keep running the car till it gets worse. Any ideas as to what it could be? It seems to be worse when you hover the revs at about 4000rpm, if you put your foot down right through the revs its not as bad.

Could be a heatshield rattle, but if it is internal engine damage, then continuing to run it is only delaying and increasing the payment the warranty company or you will face.
Surely they should be able to tell you what it is?

They said run it for about another 2000 miles or till it gets worse or ask a Subaru garage to take a listen and see if they knew what it was. So I asked 2 Subaru garages and both didnt want to know as its not a UK Subaru.

Rick...The two garages that would`nt help becouse its a jdm import,
I would never again give them bl***y house room...
There is just no justification for this sulky behaviour in my opinion,And i think garages like these should be named and shamed to be honest.....Thay would soon shout if their work dried up and thay were reliant on ANY scooby,Wether uk or import......
Sorry guys,But i do feel this treatment very unfair......Kev.

This JDM/UK discussion has been going on for years, its not down to the dealer, its down to IM.
However, you cannot go saying name and shame as the Subaru UK garages have done nothing wrong, they are just obeying their Importer who holds the rights to Subaru UK, there are on the other hand plenty of speciallists around who would look at a JDM or Grey Imported car without any problems.

There are also plenty of dealers around who will treat "Subaru" customers as just that, regardless of where the car was sold. I know of dealers who service and do work on JDM cars but of course, they are wary of IM who can, as you say, do as they like and are not obliged to look after JDM cars. Having said that, I think the terms of the cross boarder agreement that IM have signed up to, if not the spirit, implys that Fuji would like IM to change this stance....
