Thumbs down

the Legacy 93-95 SALOON does not share the same exhaust as the Impreza.
The centre is longer by couple of inches and the placement of the hangers corresponds with that extra length.

The backbox is also longer by a few inches, the hangers seem to fit if the pipe is lengthend, however if the hangers are changed then the exit tail pipe will be too short!
Additionally the flange on the backbox is a slightly smaller diamiter on the Legacy, which means the impreza flange bolt holes need to be extended inwards (made larger). This also applies to the gasket.
Therefore a reducer pipe needs to be added to an Impreza backbox with a legacy flange.

In Conclusion - I have twice now bought impreza exhaust parts asking first if these will fit and both times have been told they will
however they dont!

The only common exhaust component is the downpipe!

Try not to reply to this by saying *I KNEW THAT* as you didnt say it then and now its not helpful.

Thought id write this down in order to help the other fellow Legacy owners.

ah, didn't know about the flange problem because i fitted a complete impreza system - i wouldn't worry about it being too short as long as it does it's job

As long as you extend the centre pipe with 60 mm just after where it bolts up to the down pipe, the centre section is OK, and then modify the hangers of the back box, then you're in business. Done it three times now, no problems. If you want you can extend the tail pipe by welding slightly bigger diameter pipe on the stock pipes. Looks better too.

actually the question was back box that I saw.

There are differences in both, centre is correct fitment if you add 60 or so mm to portion just after forward flange. I originally thought they were "about" the same based on offering it up at the side of the car on the ground. A trip to hayward and scott let me see the exact difference.

The back box tailpipe is longer on legacy, moreso on estate, and the hangers are different too. Not sure how different I only know that the impreza back box I've got had its hangers cut off and renewed, tail pipe cut off and renewed and front pipe cut and reset.

After thinking about this, i recon that if i make up a 60mm or so pipe with a stanndard flange at each end, mod one side to bring the bolt holes closer together.

Then i think an impreza backbox with its original hangers will fit.???????
Gonna ask H and S is they can do something.
I can see how the legacy exhaust catches people out, as by looking at it, it seems an identical shape, join and length!

The backbox post was recent, however i had a similar post for the center section in april. which concluded the same way.

i really dont understand the point of this thread, you state that youve had bad advice from the board.you now know the legacy/impreza exhausts may need a little modification to fit, but, any one using search will never get pointed to this thread,as your title is too ambiguous

care3,

i dont understand the point of your post, yet I do understand what dan is saying, despite having pointed this out..

like he said the point is that someone read it.. and the information is 'stored' somewhere..

And I wouldnt call it a search facility.. rather a random query generator.

Wink

If you had put "Legacy exhaust fit" into the search rather than "ooh, I wonder if one of those legacy exhausts is of the precise fitment dimensions as an impreza" you would had had more luck

it was magnet's reply to my post about a week or so ago that saved me a lot of messing around, after borrowing an impreza centre section for my mot believing it to be the same fitment as my legacy, so thanks again for that dan
