Andy,

Mine is leaving Australia today, I made sure the kit consisted of monitor, knocksensor and waterproof plug. I have to thank Jan Shim who gave me excellent info as I was going to connect straight to the ECU. Andy I'm also going to mount it on the manifold. Please let me know how you go with it mounted there, or of any other tips to get the most out of it as I am concerned about the no affect when you hit the other side of the manifold.

Thanks in Advance,
WREXY

Andy

If you tap the area around the knock sensor with a key, you should be able to light the red led with no problem.

However, I still never get more than the 1st (bottom) led blinking either....occasionally the next lights briefly on lift-off at high revs.

Question

I fitted a KnockLink to my car last night.

When I start the car, the second (from bottom) green led flashes and that's it.

When I hit the manifold near the knock sensor, it goes up to the second amber led, but htting the manifold on the other side has no effect!

I've turned the sensitivity up to the maximum as it recommends (clockwise).

On a drive this morning none of the LED's lit up, and only the green one lights up on starting and stopping the car.

Is this right, or have I done something fundamentally wrong?? Or is my car knock free??

Any ideas?
Andy

Question

Andy,

I've never seen a knocklink and I'm not really sure what one is. Is it just an LED indicator for air/fuel mixture? I think demon tweeks sell something like it by Lumenition, is this the same thing?

Where did you get yours from and how much?

Cheers also for the help with the Anthracite wheels thingy.

Rich

Rich what you are referring to is a lambda indicator which is airfuel ratio.

Lambda is links version of the lumenition one you saw.

A knocklink looks similar with less leds, and is attached to a microphone which sits on the engine block. When it hears high frequency noise it lights up, simple as that.

I think it makes a big difference where the sensor is fitted as to the accuracy of the system. One or two LEDs lighting means background noise(usually)

Karlos,

It detects pinking and lets you see it on a monitor with lead lights. The more leads that light up the more severe the detonation. It can save your engine cause when you see it light up you back off, then try and work out why. Maybe too much boost, bad fuel, low octane fuel, engine temperature and more could be some of the reasons for detting. If there is something I've missed or stated something incorrectly please add, anyone.

Lightbulb

The green light should be on dimly with the ignition on, it shows the unit is getting power.

2 greens then two yellows indicate increasing build up of mainly background noise which is the pre-cursor to detonation. The big red flash is what you should be trying to avoid.

Mike.

Chan,

WREXY has seen the pic of your sensor mounting (note the grainer photo quality )along with what the Link Bosch sensor looks like close-up. The KnockLink will not detect pings, only knocks and big ones too. In order to detect or hear pings, you need a set of det cans, a DIY device that resembles a stethoscope. This allows you to listen to all engine noises. Pings sound like Pzzzt before developing into a loud crack known as a Knock!
