My dad has just had a P1 exhaust fitted to his turbo, but it doesn't sound as loud as i thought it would.

It is a 3" STI exhaust which makes it sound a bit deeper, but I thought it would make it sound like a WRX (with that lovely glugging sound)

Any ideas?

Its the standard exhaust off an STi thats fitted to the P1 if you look at the back of the tailpipe where it joins the backbox itself you will see it reduces in size, exhausts like Prodrive/Scoobysport/scoobymania/PE etc dont do this ! are less restrictive and make a "bit" more noise !

.......hence the reason why most P1 owners change them for either a prodrive P1 backbox or scoobysport one........

Damn right. After hearing the Prodrive back box, and a full ScoobySport system, I had to change the backbox on my P1 - the STI exhaust is way too quiet. I plumped for the ScoobySport job, 'cos I think it sounds gorgeous - although the "Jet Fighter on take off" sound of the Prodrive effort does sound rather cool

So buying a magnex back box wouldn't make a single bit of difference to the sound?

How much is a full Magnex system?

Cool

A magnex backbox will make a difference in sound because it is a wider bore all the way through. Couple that with a catless downpipe and a straight through centre pipe and you'll get all the noise you need
