As you probably guessed I've got a '97 WRX Sti Type R and I got problems with the above item. I had it changed recently when I took it in for a service @ scoobysport. They fitted another one which has the same problem. At idle it is running @ 1,200-1,500 rpm, and running very uneven. After switching off the ignition the solenoid makes a loud tapping noise for a couple of seconds. I have tried removing it and spraying in carb cleaner, but this has not worked. HEEELLLPPPP!!!

Probably nothing to do with the solenoid, the symptons indicate an air leak, faulty map sensor or faulty mass air flow meter possibly. the clicking at switch of indicates possibly the map sensor, did the put the Select monitor on it ? the solenoid tapping is normally an indication of good health not bad health.

Thumbs up

Your getting a bit technical for me now, not sure about what they did to it, but at least it will seem like I know what I'm talking about when I get someone to look at the problem!

is your check engine light on?

Don't know about 97 WRX's but with my 94 WRX it was reading a MAF sensor error without the check engine light being on. It might be worth checking.

You could also try resetting your ecu.
