Screaming exhaust noise with PPP

Finally got to take the car out for a good blast this afternoon after having the PPP fitted. I had the back windows open, enjoying the deep, growling exhaust note from my shiny new back box.
On giving it a long bootful in 3rd, beyond about 4500 revs, the grumble was joined by a loud screech or scream - definitely coming from the back of the car and definitely sounding like air as opposed to metal. Back off on the throttle and it's gone.
The engine response was fine (read brilliant!) and there's no evidence that anything was wrong, but I wasn't expecting the noise.
What might be causing it, and is it normal?
