Wonder if any of you guys could help ??!?!?

I have a 98 uk turbo, and occasionally, when trying to accelerate in 2nd or 3rd gears it seems to loose power.... It still keeps accelerating but at about half its normal pace. I have read about a solenoid playing up and the car loosing boost altogether but mine seems to have different symptoms....

There was a thread a while back like this...

There is a known "feature" of the ECU where if you've spent several seconds around 3000rpm and then boot it, you get half boost which feels like serious lack of power.

Apparently this is due to the ECU thinking it's being noise tested so providing low levels of boost which = low noise which = car gets approved....

Matt

P.S. The solution is to lift off the throttle completely and then boot it again...

Thanks Matt
Thats exactly what I do, If I lift off completely then floor it, its fine.
So the solution is not to stay around 3000 rpm.....

Or, stay in a higher gear and change down and then boot it rather than hold it in the lower gear...

I do the latter, as Matt recommends, and have found four wheel spin kicks in from 3rd to 2nd on a wet road at around 30mph. Quite unbelievable the first time it happened!

Thanks Guys, i'll bear it in mind,
I also want to tune it up slightly, at the moment it totally standard, was thinking about a new exhaust and a K&N induction kit.
Does these have good effect ??

Yep, start increasing performance this way but before that upgade your brakes...make sure it can stop before you make it 'go'..
