Question

Hi there,

I recently cleaned and re-oiled the air filter on the H.K.S. induction kit on my 1993 import WRX.
Since doing this job, I have noticed a slight hesitation / surging when driving, even with a warm engine, which I had not experienced before.
Having checked previous threads, I am worried that I may have dirtied the MAF sensor by over oiling the filter.
My question is whether the sensor is causing this problem and if so, is it possible to clean the sensor? Also, how do you go about this job?

Hope someone can shed a bit of light on this topic!

Thanks in advance,

Philip.

Phil,

Don't worry - it's not hard to fix.

You need to remove the black cylinder with the wires plugged into it from the car.

Then clean the element inside with some cotton buds and luke-warm water. You'll use a lot of buds!

It's also worth cleaning the mesh which is on one end of the cylinder.

The element is fairly robust so as long as you are not rough with it, it is a painless job.

IHTH

Thanks

Gavin
