Anyone had experiences with air filter/induction kits on the P1...........
1) Any particularly recommended & would they effect your warranty ??
2) Do they make any real difference in performance ?
3) Do Prodrive do any form of air filter kit conversion...........?

Cameron had a Pipercross induction kit on his P1 for the last six months. It blew the MAF sensor at the last Knockhill trackday! I think he'd only been out on track once. Even worse, he was trying to impress the ladies!
Not a happy bunny! Although I think it worked out in the end!
I think most people agree that the MAF sensor on all MY99 & MY00 is quite sensitive and it's a risk to fit an induction kit. Panel filter should be okay though.
Effect warranty = yes
performance = not sure
Available from prodrive = ha ha ha ha
Regards
Mark

Gastro,
There are people running induction kits on P1's with no probs yet (& on track) I think the main problem with the maf sensor failing is vibration so if the kit is 'bolted' in soild you should be ok.

Ummmmmmm........funny one this coz today I asked the same question of Jap Imports of Oldham. Last year I had a STi 6 and had a G/GOODE s/s catless system and HKS air induction kit on, it blew the air flow sensor twice and I had to revert back to std throughout, this by the way was normal road use. I now have a week old P1 and would like to upgrade the exhaust/intake sytem but am wary due to last years experience. I'm s'posed to be going for a backbox (prodrive) and a blitz cone kit.........but after reading this post re; the other P1's experience, I dont know !

My MAF was stuffed and I was using an ITG, although the two are not related I'm sure.
Got the OE filter in now and notice no difference.
Save your pennies and get a downpipe and a Scoobysport equal length manifold, and see some real gains !!

I have just been told by Subaru to take off my K&N 57i due to it and other filters sucking in the oil of them into the maf and knacking it up ,they see it all the time apparently. My cars not a P1 (97 my turbo) but it made no difference in performance because the turbo only sucks in the air that the ecu tells it to and It actually seemed more responsive with the old box back on but did not sound as good.

I've had an ITG filter in my P1 since new (6 weeks) & so far no problem. I ordered it from Scoobysport & it was delivered to my dealership prior to me picking up the car.
They fitted it, indicating there would be no warranty issues but suggested I come back 2 weeks later so they could check if the filter oil (or whatever that blue sticky stuff in the filter is) wasn't being sucked out onto the MAF sensor. So 2 weeks after collection I had it checked & no problems found.
Last weekend I took out the ITG filter myself & had a look to see how it was fairing. There was a small pool of oil on the dirty side of the filter, at the lowest point in the air box but no oiler spills, splatters or muck on the clean side of the filter. The mesh prior to the MAF sensor was clean too.
Car has done 2.7 K miles.
In a previous post of mine here, I asked how the apparently more holey ITG can still filter out 10 micron particles & Pete Croney kindly explained the principles.
It does seem to make the car pull harder - everything seems that little bit more manic when I roar up the road.
All in all I'm happy with it.
I hope this was a little helpful at least.
Best regards,
Simon
