Still new to the Scooby, so not yet sure what is normal and what isn't.

When I stop the car before switching the engine off and let it have it's 2 mins idle, the engine is really loud in the creaking/ticking department whilst it cools down.

Is this normal? Never heard it so loud on a car before!

I'm not really driving it that hard either.

Scotsman.

Scotsman,

My MY96 is the same, however my exhaust manifold shield is screwed (rattly & noisy) so put it down to this cooling down.

Is the tinking and boinging quite tinny? If so it's probably this shield.

This is perfectly normal and is due to the various hot bits as they cool down. there is a lot of heat shielding on the exhaust system and this combined with the exhaust piping itself creates a lot of noise. the handbook actually makes mention of this!

Thx for the reassurance

It sounds fine - just a LOT noiser than I've ever had on other cars (normal ones!).

Its only really a problem when you arrive home far too late, let the engine idle for a minute, switch off, only to hear the b****y thing ticking away! Mine doesn`t do it so much since I fitted a s/s downpipe.
