ENGINE RATTLE??

I HAVE A 93 WRX WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE A SMALL RATTLE FROM THE ENGINE ON OVER RUN AT ABOUT 2000RPM .I,VE TIRED CHANGING THE OIL BUT MADE NO CHANGE TO SOUND.THE LOCAL DEAL SAID IT MIGHT BE A LAZY TAPPET?BUT HAS ANYONE ELSE COME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM PLEASE HELP A WORRIED MAN

Have you tried the exhaust heat shields ? if they break then they often rattle at about 1800-2300rpm .

Was told my similar noise was the solenoid(whatever that means!)

I think Big Bear is spot on with his analogy. Very common problem especially a car that vintage.

i have had asimilar problem on my94 it turnrd out to be a heatshield

when my big end bearings went I thought it was a heat shield rattle too.....
get someone who knows what a shagged big end sounds like (like a decent mechanic) to have a listen ASAP!

hope it's just the heatshield - but best not to take the chance.

If you catch it early you might get away with just a crank regrind and new bearings.
