MY98 MAF question
#1
I have started to see a slightly irratic idle on my 98, which has resulted in CEL coming on a couple of times whilst sat in traffic. Have booked a session on the select monitor, but from what I have read I suspect the MAF.
Is there the same issues as with the MY99 where the sensor can be bought as a seperate item / or including the housing @ £200 more?? Would like to be armed with some info before the dealer says that will be £300 sir
Have not tried to diagnose the code incase I ***** it up, any other possabilities for causing idle probs ?
Cheers
Steve

I have a dodgy idle on MY98... The Maf's are prety good on these so check some other things first.
They'll only pick it up on the select monitor if they really know there stuff
Might also be the Idle Control Vlave sticking, or the Throttle pos sensor. I have both of these faults. Equally, it could be the 02 sensor.
When my 99MY played up, Subaru dealer didnt have a clue. Power Engineering sorted it

Im not sure how "out of tolerance" it would have to be to get the CEL up. One of the guru's on here may know. MAF rarely shows up, but can be detected if they watch the reading carefully.

Oh well, looks like I am in the hands of the select monitor operator. CEL has come on at least twice so that will be held in memory at least. Hate these kind of diagnostic probs.... could end up going around in circles unless the dealer is up to scratch.

Its about £90 for MY99 element.
MY98 you have to replace the whole unit, hence the extra £200 for a big bit of plastic
Robbing *******s...

The MAF unit on its own is £76 inc VAT. The link below will take you to the post with the part number

It is not the same as the MY99 unit. That price is just for the element, which is not replaceable on the MY98.
The MY98 cost a lot more than that.
