Unhappy

When i accelerate hard, on the gearchange i get a cracking or whipping sound from the front??????
I though at first it was my alarm remote on the keyfob hitting the dash but its not.
Any ideas would be appreciative.
I drive a MY96 STi
Cheers

it caused a noise which was quite hard to place

There is a section on the SIDC FAQ about a similar noise coming from the brake pipes in the engine compartment.
