2001 WRX filters/induction kits
#2
Owning a 2002 U.S. spec WRX I recommend the use of a non-oiled filter such as the Blitz stainless steel unit. This ensures you don't suck and filter oil residue onto the mass air flow sensor or related intake sensors (depends which year) and destroy it. Believe me those sensors are not cheap to replace, $120.00+ in U.S dollars!

As I understood it, the fitting of a cone filter to an MY01 is not possible because of a new design of MAF sensor. You would also loose the 'ramair' style induction that is a feature of the MY01, and probably a decrease in performance.

To anyone who thinks that intake is of high quality, and has power producing potential. I ask that you take it off and look at it.
It posibly the worst factory intake I have ever seen:
1)It shrinks down to a 2 inch diameter at 4 spots.
2)There are 4 holes in that snorcle thing facing the engine, there is one hole on the bottom of the resonator.
3)the air box is huge and is ribbed inside
4)the actuall intake piping is ribbed in two sections.
5)paper filter.
6)that resonator, its a big hollow Y shaped POS. again there is also a hle on the bottom of it.
That thing sucks. Can't wait for a decent intake kit to come out for the car. I'm hoping Apex will bring out someting nice. I love their dry type cone filters. I have seen them beat everything on a dyno.
