Question

i am getting my scooby mapped (ECUTEK) soon and wondering wether to fit and induction kit while there at it, or just replace the filter with a STi or ITG panel one.

heard some bad things about induction kits i.e bad filtration, MAF sensor failure, cant get the cold air, and some people getting better results with a panel filter!

getting decated when mapped, then that should do it for the mods so not after big power.

peccy - STi6 Type R (Mods: Up pipe / full decat / ECUTEK)

I would run with a better panel filter to save hassles with MAF vibration or contamination. I only switched to a cone when I had to remove the airbox to fit a FMIC.

Thumbs up

M8 NNY, i think the ITG is a oil/wet type, the STi a dry type similar to the OEM one, but better like the rest of the STi goodies

STi stuff generally is IMHO vastly under-rated from what I have seen. Often much better than third party aftermarket stuff, and the STis get some very good stuff on them out the box.

I have had a blitz sus metal induction kit for a while now on my MY99 and have had no problems with maf etc, it preforms very well and makes a nice sound IMO

Have you had the car on a DeltaDash or Select Monitor to make sure the MAF sensor is still metering correctly after fitting the cone Eddoe?

You may not have had any problems yet, but if your car is performing noticeably better since you fitted it, that may be a sign that it's running lean, which could cause you an expensive problem further down the line.

Just out of interest, where does one acquire an STi panel filter from? Can you order them through a Scooby main dealer with an appropriate part number?
