Just cheked the dipstick, and she needs a top-up with oil.
As the car is new to me, i dont know what oil is currently in the engine. Is it alright just to add some Mobil 1 Motorsport? before getting the oil changed when possible.
Thanks
Phil.

Hi Clarey,
It is not recommended to mix different brands and blends of oil's unless you know the weight of oil and weather it is mineral based or synthetic based, so if i was you i would just change the oil and filter. If the car has less than 12500km on the clock use a mineral based oil, because you run the risk the engine may not be quite run in yet, but after that i would use a full synthetic oil changing it every 5000km with a filter.
hope this helps.

Thanks chaps,
I was a bit worried as it was low, and i might have to do a 400 mile trip before being able to get it changed, but plans could be changed now.
As for mileage she has done 137,000Km but only about 40,000Km on the engine
Phil.
P.S She's an STI V3 TypeR.

Brand doesnt really matter. YOu can mix different oil weights as long as it is of the same type (ie dont mix synthetic with mineral etc).
Gethins point of not overfilling is right on the ball, but also be careful NOT TO POUR THE OIL IN TOO QUICKLY as this can cause overboost problems by the oil going where it should'nt.

Thanks,
I went out and got an oil filter yesterday, i wil be changing the oil shortly.
I asked the question as i didn't know what oil was already in.
Thanks for the tip on pouring slowly, i also half fill the oil filter before fitting it.
