Turbo Whine
#1
I've been meaning to ask for a while...
How much turbo whine (on a MY94 WRX) should I be getting? It is clearly audible when accelerating lightly at low revs. It does seem to get quieter after the car has warmed up.
What do you all reckon - any cause for concern?
Thanks,dave

Dont really know what you mean. On an MY94 (same as mine) at low revs and under a fair bit of load, I get a noticeable "whistle" but not a whine.
If its a whine check your power steering fluid level...you can pick this if you get a VERY audible whine under power coming out of corners, which takes a few seconds to go away completely.

Dave, I assume that you mean the aussie WRX i.e. the UK standard turbo (208 bhp) as opposed to our import Jap WRX (240 bhp) although it may not make that much difference.
I have a UK MY95 and this has the distinctive whistle from the turbo on boost. When it is cold, on startup the engine does whine alot, maybe not necessarily all from the turbo. This goes at low revs once the engine is warm.
Sounds normal.
