I've just read about them as essential items for track days to prevent oil starvation during extreme cornering.
Are they applicable to boxer engines?
If so does anyone have one?

Dry sumps will work...
They take some fitting and require an extra pump for scavenging...
They also require a large tank for the oil... these are normally fitted where the back seats go..or in the boot...
Either way you will be sacrifising some of your spare room...and its awkward as hell to fit onto a road car

They are by no means essential. Most of the people on here that do track days don't have them.
There have been a few cases of the big end bearings failing but I don't think oil surge is thought to be the cause.Apparantly the standard scoob sump is a fairly good design.
As a precaution most simply fit an oil pressure gauge although they are hard to look at when cornering(gives the passengers a job).A
better solution is to fit a second oil pressure switch that switches about 25psi and then connect it to a bright warning light or buzzer. The standard switch is set to 2.1 psi so will provide no warning on track.

Incase anyone is interested...
You can by "baffled" sumps...
Falkland Performance sell them... and I have also made/supplied some...
A pressure switch with a higher threshold is a good idea, but should be combined with a friggin load bugger...or bright red light!!... again... if anyone is interested let me know (supplied these too)..
Damn... I should stop this... I aint a supplier .. yet
